The college was formally inaugurated on 24 July 1977 by the renowned industrialist and educationist Sahu Shanti Prasad Jain of Delhi, under the chairmanship of Shri Lalchandbhai Modi of Rajkot. The grand inauguration ceremony was attended by the then Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, as the chief guest, while Shri Trilokchand Jain, the Industries Minister, graced the occasion as the special guest.

Beginning with only 13 students in 1977, the institution has, up to the academic session 2017–18, produced 835 dedicated scholars who are serving Jainism and society in India and abroad. At that time, 191 students were pursuing studies in various classes at the college.

To ensure the all-round development of students and provide in-depth knowledge of Jain scriptures, spirituality, and logic, distinguished scholars regularly conduct classes in addition to the college faculty. Two ten-day spiritual training camps are organized every year, featuring lectures, classes, and philosophical discussions by eminent scholars. These camps attract thousands of spiritual seekers, creating a highly inspiring and religious atmosphere.

The college provides not only a religious environment but also a family-like atmosphere. Students live under the affectionate guidance and disciplined administration of Dr. Hukamchand Bharill and Principal Pandit Ratanchand Bharill. Many students develop such a strong attachment to the institution that they encourage their friends and relatives to seek admission here. In numerous families, multiple generations and siblings have studied at the college, reflecting its lasting impact and reputation.

Admission is open on an all-India basis without discrimination of caste, language, or region. Selection is made through an entrance examination, merit in Class 10 examinations, performance in training camps, and interviews. Preference is given to students who possess faith in Digambar Jainism and a sincere desire to study Jain philosophy and spirituality.

After completing Class 10, students can earn the degree of Jain Darshan Shastri from Rajasthan Sanskrit University through a five-year residential program. This qualification is recognized as equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) throughout India.

Students are provided with free facilities including accommodation, food, education, and healthcare. The institution also organizes numerous co-curricular and extracurricular activities throughout the year, such as weekly seminars, public speaking training, literary competitions, educational tours, sports, physical exercise, religious rituals, devotional music, and cultural programs.

During their five years of study, students are taught approximately 40 major and minor Jain scriptures, including 15 Agamas and their commentaries, along with 25 texts covering the four Anuyogas prescribed by the Vitarag Vigyan Vidyapeeth Examination Board.

The college also offers opportunities for advanced studies leading to the Acharya Degree, equivalent to a postgraduate qualification (M.A.) in Jain Philosophy.

The institution has consistently achieved academic excellence. Students regularly secure positions in merit lists of examinations conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Ajmer, and Rajasthan Sanskrit University. Up to the 2025 session, 118 out of 1115 graduates had earned places in merit lists. Students have also excelled in literary, cultural, and sports competitions at college, district, and state levels.

Among the 1115 graduates produced by the institution, 38 have become Jain Philosophy Acharyas, 34 have earned Ph.D. degrees, and several others have registered for doctoral research. Every year, approximately 30–35 students graduate as scholars of Jain philosophy.

The college is operated with the support of several trusts and benefactors, including Pandit Todarmal Sarvodaya Trust (Jaipur), Shri Kundkund Kahan Digambar Jain Tirth Suraksha Trust (Mumbai), Ravindra Patni Family Charitable Trust (Mumbai), Shri Rajmal Kalyanmal Patni Siddha Chetana Trust (Kolkata), Pujya Shri Kanji Swami Smarak Trust (Deolali), and Shri Vitarag Vigyan Swadhyay Mandir Trust (Ajmer), among others.

Through its dedication to spiritual education, academic excellence, and character building, Shri Todarmal Digambar Jain Siddhant Mahavidyalaya continues to serve as one of the most respected centers for Jain studies in India.
